And a Supernatural Underground post!

May 20, 2011 at 10:00 am (Supernatural Underground)

I’m posting like mad this week. Could it have something to do with procrastinating on the revision?

If you’re curious about what sparked “Letters of Fire,” today’s post at Supernatural Underground covers a little of that background. It’s also about balancing magic when constructing a setting. And voice-overs for movie trailers.

Supernatural Underground and a question

April 20, 2011 at 8:18 am (Supernatural Underground)

I’ve got a post up at Supernatural Underground regarding romantic leads and how my tastes in them are kind of skewed. This should not be a surprise to anybody.

Also, a quick question for those reading this blog (both of you):  I’m about to embark on a really big revision, and I’m considering posting updates as I go.  In theory, this’ll give you some idea of the process as it sets checklists and benchmarks for me.  In practice, well, it could taper off or explode spectacularly.  Thoughts?

Supernatural Underground: Who ordered the LARGE HAM???

February 20, 2011 at 6:46 pm (Cons, Supernatural Underground)

I’ll have a quick con report up later about Boskone.  For now, I can summarize the experience: It was awesome, and I’m exhausted.

In the meantime, today’s my blog day for Supernatural Underground, so in my sleep-deprived and mildly goofy state I’m admitting to my tendency toward drama.  Or, rather, DRAMA!!!! (and yes, with that many exclamation marks).   I don’t know if I can blame it on family tradition, but I will say that there were an awful lot of Brian Blessed imitations this Christmas.  I’m not sure if this is a good thing, but I sure as hell enjoyed it.

(And now I’m going to have the Flash Gordon theme stuck in my head for the rest of the night.  Oh well.)

Supernatural Underground: In which I talk about imaginary friends

January 20, 2011 at 7:59 pm (Cons, Supernatural Underground)

I’ve got a Supernatural Underground post up — a little late, but still on time — about how revision is my friend. Mixed metaphors and confused imagery abound!

If the first rush of composing a new story is like the glamourous, bubbly friend who shows up with tickets to That Thing You Love and buys you tea and little chocolate pastries and gives you sparkling advice about your relationship problems, then revision is the kind of friend who will help you move, but will at the same time point out that maybe the last few life choices you’ve made have not been very good ones. Revision will tell you that no, the bandage dress doesn’t work on you, then remind you to file your taxes.

Arisia was a lot of fun, though as usual I barely got enough time with the people I wanted to see and spent far too little time just relaxing. It was also apparently “imprudent financial decision time” at the dealers’ rooms. I regret nothing.  NOTHING.

Supernatural Underground post

December 27, 2010 at 12:00 pm (Supernatural Underground, The Internet Is Full of Things)

We’re up to our necks in snow here (okay, only in a few drifts, but it sure feels like that deep), and so what’s the natural thing to do when snowed in a few days after Christmas?

You might think it’d be to curl up playing Xbox games with the resident organist and eating gingerbread cookies for breakfast, but you’d be wrong.

Well, partly wrong.

Okay, so it’s my first impulse too, but it’s not what I’m doing right now.  Instead, I’ve posted on the Supernatural Underground group blog — a haven for the Harper paranormal authors — and talked a little bit about hearing voices.  Character voices, specifically.

Go on and take a look.  Me, I’ve got work to do — that snow needs shoveling, and the gingerbread keeps giving me funny looks.
